Even though I'm behind on the episodes and probably won't complete them till the finale has aired, I read the thread because it's so entertaining. I wonder if this is how the Coffee House thread was.
You have so much fanfic going on there, people seeing things that don't exist, character super worship, shipper fights and just like everyone went to Nirvana in Coffee House when they thought their ship might be sinking, they are doing the same thing there. LOL. Now I wish I watched Coffee House as a non-shipper because it must have been so much fun.
It does crack me up how some people are so blinded by their idol-worship that they excuse a 'bad' character's crimes and some just go on and on about an actor like he's the second coming of Denzel Washington in Glory.
Personally, I find the show entertaining but not something to write a 3000-page essay about.

It's unavoidable it seems so I will limit my comments on Soompi once my upcoming drama picks hit the screen. I will opt for commenting on Viki or DB if any are being recapped.
Even if not watching the dramas, their threads are entertaining to read. Some fans are zealots about their idol to be sure. There is a lot of energy displayed on emotional fronts.

Bwaha! I remember the Coffee House shipping war. But I think most of the JS-SY fans stayed mainly on their Viikii thread, while the Soompi CH thread had more JS-EY fans. I think it could be attributed to episode 8, when THE kiss took place. The JS-EY fans had more cause to celebrate, and when the thread was flooded by gleeful comments from their fans, folks from the other fandom became intimidated to post their opposing views. Towards the end the thread saw a good mix of both fandoms, and I think for the most part, the posts were very respectful of the differing opinions.
But like you said, there was certainly a share of fans who were seeing/reading things in the show that were pretty much non-existent.
After the show ended, going through a CH repeat, and finally shipping the JS-EY pairing, it's hard to remember what it was like to be as a non-shipper. It was really hard because the kiss in episode 8 made the chemistry between the OTP difficult to deny. And looking back, even though I claimed non-shipping, I think deep down, I was rooting for JS-EY. I noticed the same thing with others who were claiming a neutral stance but were obviously shipping one way or another.
It was just annoying when fans from a ship would accuse the fans from the opposition of being too harsh toward their preferred female lead, when in reality, both ships had their fair share of bad seeds.

Yeah, there are some very loyal fans and sometimes I think they forget it's just acting. I think soompi can be good if everyone is on the same team. lol.
It looks like you're going to watch 49 days, huh? I'll give it a go even they name turns me off for some reason. Makes me feel the drama will have 49 episodes. lol
Angie, I remember when I was watching PP and was rooting against the main couple. LOL. Shipping can be fun but it's different when there's a clear winner. With PP, even though I knew she was going to end up with the other dude and her boss with that other chick, I was rooting for them and my few posts on the soompi thread just got ignored. lol. But when there's no clear winner, claws come out.
There were some LYING ass non-shippers on the soompi thread - most of them JS/SY. lol. They cracked me up. Everything they said was against one ship yet they were non shippers. lol... angie, your nonshipping was more balanced, after all you at least liked both ladies.

Some of the idol "fans" can be bit extreme for sure, but I hope it's harmless fun. Yet based on some of the comments, I do question if some of the members are well, if you know what I mean....
I have never been around any idol "fans" like these where you feed them, etc. These stars can feed themselves and with their fans money to boot. It's beyond me. We have extreme sports so I am sure there are extreme fans here, like the dude crying over the bad press against Britney S. fcol
Yes, 49 Days is a short drama (I hope). It looks like fun and I hope I do not end up dropping it.... My picks this time have me wondering if I need to stock up on tissues....I like mixing up my Kdramas, but I think my upcoming selections are all kinda melo exc for 49 D.
The competition with the ratings is heating up too by the fans....I hope Soompi does not change drastically with the new owner, but I do see more variety of shows, surveys, and kpop news around. [When I saw the article about Soompi's sale, I emailed JB to see if she were selling too. lol]

I really don't read much of the fans comments because I don't want to be influenced by anyone since I'm writing the recap!! but whenever I do back read, I find some comments similar to the CH days in the sense of the "uncertainty" of the OTP..
I remember the days where ship jumping is so critical!! haha!! a strong faith is indeed needed for one to hold on to a chosen ship.. anyway.. I just find it sooo awesome that Dream High delivers on that uncertainty level that keeps everyone at the edge of their seats.. I think now you know the feeling of angie since she doesn't have a definitive ship at that time, right?? LOL.
