So I'm maybe about a 1/4 or 1/3-way into my last soompi fic...

... I guess it's a nice feeling to be ending my one year run on the site. I anticipate finishing the story at the end of August. The storyline has been finalized and all that so it's all about getting it all out of my head.

Compared to others, it looks like I'm quite a fast writer. It generally takes me about 2 hours to write and edit a 2000-word chapter. The actual writing of the first draft usually takes less than 30 minutes. Is that fast?

I don't know the point of this post. I guess I'm feeling a bit weird about it all... I mentioned it in my thread and now I get to read comments that make me feel both happy and sad at the same time. Oh well, I'll just accept my fate as a boring writer and move on. And I think I might not finish one of the stories. On one hand, I do want to complete it for the readers who've been left hanging but on the other hand, I don't feel like dealing with the aggravation and insecurity of it all. Plus I'll have to reread it to remember what it's all about. LOL I think I'm pretty much done. We'll see at the end of August.

Writing on soompi did teach me a few things about writing - things I didn't learn from Femi's Diary or my O.C. stuff which is: just because you like what you write doesn't mean others do. lol It's a sad state of affairs... other stories get recommended along with mine, they acquire new readers but I don't :( :) I have to realize it's more with my stories lacking appeal than anything else.

I'm probably one of the least read writers on soompi (someone once referred to someone with my readership level as a failure. Ouch) but I've managed to write quite a bit since I started writing there... I probably wouldn't have spent as much of my time writing as I have in the past year if I didn't post there so I've definitely gained something from writing there.

It of course also made me question my ability to capture an audience and I guess I've decided that I'm just too boring. But it's okay... as long as I can entertain myself and the few people who enjoy my writing, I guess it's okay. I'm quite sure I'll fail miserably if I attempt to be 'interesting.'

Plus it seems that 'cutesy' fics are out (even though I still see many doing well) and 'dark, mature' fics are in. And since I won't be writing the latter, I guess I really have to find my way out. Oh well.... And that's my whine for today.

lol... it's quite funny how much I whine about this. I wonder what I'd be like if this was actually my day job... well, I'd probably be broke. lol

Umbrella - Naija Remix

Hahaha... so I only just blogged about Banky W a few days ago and now he's gone and done an Umbrella 'Remix' as sung by Rihanna. In regards to the original song, I always liked the beat but that was about it... Plus that woman's humongous forehead is just so damn distracting.

So anyhoo, I guess Banky W celebrates his Naija(Nigerian) roots in this song by talking about how he reps Naija regardless of where he is, be it Yankee(America) or Jand(England)... and other places 'near or far'. Then the bridge is pretty much saying we all rep Naija regardless of our places of origin (Kaduna, Anambra etc etc).

The song is cute and back in Naija I would have called it slightly razz with the whole Ebute Metta thing. It's also quite creative as there are some word plays e.g. You can cross rivers in Calabar... Calabar is the capital of Cross Rivers state. You can so rock down in Abuja... Aso Rock is located in Abuja.

The ending is kinda corny with the whole unity/wazobia thing but I guess every song should have a message.

But it's catchy and even though the lyrics are very simple and repetitive, it's still a fun rendition... and it's not like it's supposed to be taken seriously. I guess this is what happens when Banky is just playing (read: procrastinating) in the studio.

Here's the song: Ebute Metta

Follow me...

... why do I love the songs that aren't singles? I think I love Usher more than I realized. This is Follow Me from his Confession's album. This is just a clip of his performance on tour.

Can't believe I never posted this...

... in my blog. But it's all about Banky W. Some might know him from his underground hit, "My Regret," but I believe he's promoting his new song, "Capable." It's still R&B but it's got a Naija(Nigerian) flavor.

Capable This is a fanmade video, by the way.

My Regret Official video

Majekodumni is another song off his upcoming album. It also has a Naija flavor and the video is fanmade. Majekodunmi means "Don't hurt me" in Yoruba.

I need to write something...

... just anything! Something! Anything! Otherwise, I'll end up abandoning this story and I don't want to because the end is so damn cute! Too bad I'll have to write about 30 chapters to get there first. GRRRRRRRR

Plus, I'm way too distracted by Queen of the Game. The drama is pretty damn good and fast paced. Plus the male lead is too sexy for words. I want to have a 'conversation' with him. Yum.

Same girl... by R.Kelly and Usher

I don't know why there's so much hoopla about this song... not that special. And the video is even dumber.

Tell me where...

So I was just thinking of creating a soundtrack to go with the new story I am working on called, "The Consequences of You and Me."

Anyhoo, so I really wanted to add this song I absolutely adore but it just doesn't fit the storyline. Oh well...

It's called "Tell Me Where" off Tevin Campbell's "Back to the World" album and it's just awesome. I love Tevin.

Socha Na Tha

I love this song... and the movie of the same name but since youtube decided to delete my account, I've reuploaded it elsewhere and this time I've added subs. :)

Let's make love underneath a waterfall...

I don't know why I love these sexual songs... what's wrong with me? :D

But this is one of my fav songs off Joe's "My Name Is Joe" album.

It's called, 563 (Joe)

Although I constantly...

... have mixed feelings about posting on Soompi, I think that one great thing that has come out of it is discovering that I love writing YA fiction.

I've always loved High School movies and all that great stuff but when I think back to all I've written, even though I've pretty much liked all I've come up with, I think I've probably loved the YA stuff a tad more.

Or maybe not loved it more but found them easier to write? So I wonder if this is about laziness or about enjoying it more. I don't know.

But when I think of my multi-chap The O.C. fics, The Search for Seth Cohen was probably the most fun to write. And it was the only YA one.

When I think of the stories I wrote for NE, A Christmas At Home was the most fun to write.

And as per the Soompi stuff, I don't know... lol, they were all fun to write. So yeah, maybe YA is where it's at for me. So with this new self-discovery, hopefully, I'll find it in me to start working on my new story. I already anticipate having a lot of fun writing it, but the fun begins in the middle where the story really takes off. I guess I'm being a bit lazy about writing the intro.

That's probably what I miss most about writing fanfiction because with original fiction, you have to come up with a background and all that great stuff. I love to just jump in and write all the good stuff.

Bleh. I am so lazy.
